David Powell ID’d as Bicyclist Killed in Mahomet Crash on Illinois 47 near County Road 2400 N
Mahomet, Illinois (April 7, 2020) – The Champaign County Coroner’s office has identified the bicyclist who died after being struck by a vehicle last week Friday in Mahomet as David Powell, 46.
The crash happened at around 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 3 on Illinois 47 near County Road 2400 N.
According to authorities, Powell was riding his bicycle northbound on Illinois 47 when he was struck by a semi-truck that was also traveling in the same direction.
Authorities said the driver of the truck was attempting to overtake Powell but ended up hitting his bike.
Powell sustained serious injuries and was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital for treatment. On April 6, at around 4:38 p.m. his condition deteriorated and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Roman Sydoruk, 41, of Michigan City, Indiana, who was the driver of the truck, was cited for improper passing.
The crash remains under investigation.
