Bobby Funk Injured in Semi-Truck Accident on U.S. Highway 71 in New London

Bobby Funk Hospitalized after New London Crash on U.S. Highway 71 and State Highway 9

New London, Minnesota (April 6, 2020) – A traffic accident at an intersection in rural New London left a Villard man with injuries Thursday morning, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

The crash, involving a pair of semi-tractors, happened at around 9:40 a.m. April 2 at the intersection of U.S. Highway 71 and state Highway 9 near Sibley State Park.

According to the state patrol, a 2013 Freightliner semi was heading eastbound on Highway 9 and had stopped at Highway 71 when it entered the intersection and collided with a 2007 International semi that was heading northbound on Highway 71.

The driver of the International semi, Bobby Lee Christian Funk, 40, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for treatment. The Freightliner driver, Mihajlo Korceba, 21, of Tacoma, Washington, was uninjured in the crash.

The state patrol said both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision.

Alcohol was not considered a factor in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
