Woman Seriously Injured in New Castle Bicycle Accident at South DuPont Parkway and Christiana Road
New Castle, Delaware (April 8, 2020) – A bicyclist was struck and seriously injured by a truck Sunday night near New Castle, according to Delaware State Police.
The crash occurred at about 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29 at the intersection of South DuPont Parkway and Christiana Road.
Police said a woman was riding her bicycle in the center lane of South DuPont Parkway approaching the intersection with Christiana Road when she tried to cross the northbound lanes and was hit by a GMC Denali.
The woman sustained major injuries and was taken to Christiana Hospital. Her name and current condition were not provided.
The driver of the GMC, a 36-year-old Delaware City man, pulled over in a nearby parking lot and stayed at the scene. The Delaware City man and his juvenile passenger were not injured in the crash, police said.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
